We’ve been in some form of social distancing measure for months now and most of us will have had to navigate a celebration event without the usual comfort of sharing your home with your loved ones.
We’ve put together a list of a few ideas to help you celebrate birthdays, throw baby showers or mark missed events without being in the same room as your guests!
1. Throw a doorstep parade!
Get dressed up for a party and get your loved ones to organise driving/walking past the birthday person’s front door! Imagine their joy when a stream of smiling loved ones pass by to share their love (following social distancing, of course)!
With a picnic we have to make sure we’re sticking to government guidelines and staying safe, so make sure you check what the most recent guidance is before you plan and to stay extra safe, make sure you’re in an uncrowded area. To make it a little extra special, bring your own decorations to lay around your picnic site!
3. Send them a menu and ingredients!
Would you usually celebrating by sharing a meal or sharing some drinks? Why don’t you do this together via video conferencing! You could create your loved one a menu for food or drink and pop it outside their door alongside all the ingredients. You could then organise a cook-a-long (or shake-a-long if you’re making mocktails/cocktails) via video call and pretend you’re in the same room. A fun activity with a delicious reward for both of you!
4. Surprise video call!
Surprise them by getting all of their loved ones together in one video conference. Make sure everyone is there before the person you’re celebrating and shout surprise when they arrive! Sometimes big video calls can be a little chaotic, so it’s worth organising a quiz or drafting out some kind of structure to the event. You could even get the participants to decorate their homes for extra party vibes!
I hope these tips help you celebrate your loved ones whilst staying safe. Happy social distant partying!
