5+ Apps to Stay Connected During Lockdown

April 3, 2020Emma RobsonHappiness, Health, Mental Health, PositivityNo comments

Humans are innately social and staying in touch with those that we care about is essential for good mental health and to keep loneliness at bay, so we’ve put together a list of the apps we’ve been using during lockdown to keep in touch with our loved ones.

1. HOUSE PARTY

House Party is an easy to download app, available on most platforms which is helping people to stay in touch in a really cool way! When you log into the app, your friends (the ones that you’ve added!) will get a notification saying that you’re ‘in the house’. This will allow them to join your ‘room’ where you can have face-to-face chats. It’s a great way of just popping in to visit friends and family when you see that they’re about and available to talk. Up to 8 people can join one room at any time, and you can lock the room to ensure that nobody you don’t want pops up!

House Party also offers games that you can play with your friends, like quick draw and various quizzes. The app is a really fun and super relaxed way of video calling.

2. ZOOM

Outside of lockdown, Zoom is a video conferencing app that has been used primarily for remote work conferencing. (Our angels have been using it for a while to connect between different locations!) We’ve found that Zoom’s video and audio are really clear, and you can have a lot of people in one call (we think even up to 100 but we haven’t tried that- let us know if you do!)

Zoom’s really great for scheduled catch ups with the girls, spending time with the family with the help of the internet or catching up with the work team. The first 40 minutes of conferencing is free and there’s extra features like Virtual Backgrounds (you can pull up a background of your favourite place and pretend you’re there!)

3. NETFLIX PARTY

Netflix Party works primarily on computers (both desktops and laptops) as an extension in Google Chrome and assuming you have Netflix, it’s completely free. This extension allows you to stream your favorite Netflix films/series remotely via the internet at the same time as your friends/family. A perfect way to share a movie night with someone you can’t see because of the lockdown! You can live chat about what you’re watching and really share the experience together.

4. Whatsapp/Facebook Messenger/Face Time

We all know about these apps, but not all of us know that there’s a video calling feature on Whatsapp and Facebook messenger. Log in to your most used app and get video calling!

5. Tik Tok

Tik Tok is a video sharing app for smartphones/tablets where you can take fun videos using a range of filters and share them with your contacts. Perfect for sending a laugh to your lovely friends and family.

We hope these apps help you to stay in touch with your loved ones and continue sharing the joy!
