Creating a Healthy Lockdown Workspace

April 15, 2020Emma RobsonHappiness, PositivityNo comments

Everyone’s work life has changed in the past few weeks, whether it’s got quieter, a lot busier, closer or more distanced!

Many of us are now working from home, many of us are working in empty spaces and many of us are working round the clock to keep the rest of us safe and healthy (we’re all more grateful than we could ever say).

As our angels are now all working from home, we’ve composed a few ideas to help you keep your workspace, fresh, fun, full of joy!

Tip no 1: Don’t work from your bed!

Unless you’re really short on space (or really tired!) try not to work from your bed. We’ve found that keeping bed a sacred space for sleeping and relaxing (etc!) means the time you spend in there is more healthy and more enjoyable and keeps you motivated when you’re working.

Tip no 2: Create a dedicated space

Even if it’s temporary, try and create a dedicated space for your work. “My boyfriend and I are both on lockdown in our tiny flat. Every morning we each lay out an office space and only use that space for work until the workday is done. Our flat is too small to leave our work items out in the evening, so we clear them away ready to use again the next day. It takes longer but helps divide the day between work time and leisure time!”

Tip no 3: Fill your space with things you love!

Get a photo of your loved ones near your work space, print out a quote that inspires you, draw a cute doodle, or bring a plant to your desk. Surrounding yourself with things you love and the ideas will flow! (And even if they don’t, it’ll make you happy looking at nice things!)

Tip no 4: Look out the window (or get in the garden if you can!)

I’ve found that getting onto my (3ft) balcony really makes the difference to my positivity and mindset, so on hot days I’ve set up a small table as my workstation there. If you’re lucky enough to have a garden, maybe dedicate some time to doing tasks outside when you can hear the birds and feel the sunshine. If you don’t have any outdoor space, even moving your workspace to your window can have amazing benefits on your mental health and positivity levels

Tip no 5: One for the Key Workers!

We know that many of you key workers will be working long, tiring days and cheering up your workspace certainly isn’t as easy as popping a plant on your desk! We’re so grateful for all of the amazing work you do.

Every time someone thanks you for all of your hard work, smiles at you or tells you how great you’re doing write it down. When you’re feeling fed-up, tired or worries, read through those lovely notes. You could get a loved one in your household to write a message for you to put in your bag to look at on your lunchtime, or get one of the kids to create you something pretty to put in your car to remind you of the people cheering you on and sending you love.

We hope these tips help you to make your time working in these unusual circumstances as productive as possible. We’d love to see photos of your workspace and hear your tips so please send them in!

Sending you all love and light.

Stay safe lovely ones xxx
